Episode Transcript
[00:00:01] Hey, good morning.
[00:00:03] It's early.
[00:00:05] It's Friday. And you know what that might mean? It might mean fast Friday.
[00:00:10] What does that mean?
[00:00:12] Fasting. What does that really mean? Skipping dinner on Thursday night.
[00:00:17] What does that translate into?
[00:00:21] It's 6 o', clock, I've already been up for an hour and I feel like I can conquer the world.
[00:00:27] It's almost as simple as that. In fact, speaking of simplicity, have I mentioned I'm not a doctor? Have I mentioned I'm licensed in like, nothing?
[00:00:36] This is just my experience. And if it works for you, it works for you.
[00:00:41] Here's my plan. I wrote about this in my book called 17 Hours, where I stop eating at 4pm on a Thursday.
[00:00:52] And I basically do it on Thursday so that I can call it Fast Friday. That is my big secret strategy.
[00:00:59] Stop eating at 4:00pm on Thursday.
[00:01:02] So no, and I did not. At 3:59am I eating double cheeseburgers either.
[00:01:08] So stop eating at 4:00pm and then ideally I'm gonna go to bed early. So maybe I go to bed normally at, I don't know, 11 or 10. So maybe I'm gonna go to bed at 9.
[00:01:20] So here's a, here's a pro tip.
[00:01:23] My wife was out with her company last night and they had some company outing and so I'm alone, right? And this is maybe gonna sound weird, but if I'm alone for a night, my secret pleasure is to skip dinner.
[00:01:43] Now I know if you've never done intermittent fasting, then you might think, what kind of self torture is this guy into?
[00:01:53] But here's the thing.
[00:01:54] It's Friday morning and I feel better than I have in months.
[00:02:01] Why, here's the real deal. Here is my non scientific, non medical, I do not have an MD or, or a PhD.
[00:02:13] I have an MBA, which doesn't help in this case other than I can analyze stuff maybe.
[00:02:20] But here's the deal. Here's how I think it works and you can let me know what you think.
[00:02:27] I have a new playlist on my YouTube channel, and in fact I have a series on Insight Timer, which is the meditation app that I use a lot.
[00:02:38] And it's called the Night Shift.
[00:02:40] And I like it because I think of it like a factory and I think of our bodies like a factory.
[00:02:46] So at night, and again, check my credentials, there's no doctor in there, so don't listen to me. As far as, like, medical advice, this is just me telling you my story.
[00:02:59] Pro tip. I also highly recommend when you're in a sort of flow state like I am right now where I'm feeling awesome. I've got confidence, I've got energy, I've got.
[00:03:12] I just like, can't wait to go tackle the world.
[00:03:16] Then this is a good time to hit record, which is exactly what I'm doing. Or grab the pen and paper or grab the keyboard and just let it out. Because if you just bottle it up and keep it all trapped inside your mind or imagination, your imagination can be closed off. You've got to sort of set it free, to let it go and let it do its thing.
[00:03:40] So here's the deal. The night shift, I'm putting together a collection of guided meditations where there's like a factory foreman, all right? And that's you.
[00:03:58] And the factory workers are however you envision your body working. And if you don't have any vision of it, you can borrow mine.
[00:04:09] Mine is a kind of old school, you know, whatever 1950s factory. Like, the guys and gals are in overalls and, you know, light blue work uniforms, right?
[00:04:23] And they, they are very dedicated workers. They are. Their job is your body, your mind, your soul, right? Your mind, your heart, your gut. That's their job. And they work the night shift.
[00:04:37] They work when you're sleeping.
[00:04:40] So what's their task? How do they know what to do? Right, and this is where the foreman comes in. The. The factory foreman, right? And he's got like a cigar and, you know, his cap, it's like engineer's cap, right? And he's sort of rough and tough guy, right?
[00:05:00] And normally on a normal night, you're recuperating from your day, you're regenerating anything that your body needs.
[00:05:12] So here's the trick with intermittent fasting. How I see it from the non medical perspective, and this is not health advice.
[00:05:21] I see it where.
[00:05:24] And I have read a lot a ton about intermittent fasting and fasting in general, and I'm a huge fan, obviously.
[00:05:30] So your body at night, part of the team there, part of the workforce, and a good part of the workforce is busy digesting dinner.
[00:05:42] I've done a lot of research on this, and the amount of energy our bodies use to digest food is amazing.
[00:05:49] So this is why we're, you know, you're tired after a meal, right? Because your body's like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Blue team, blue team, get to work. You know, digest that double cheeseburger.
[00:06:01] Have you noticed I keep mentioning double cheeseburgers. Have you noticed I'm into intermittent fasting. I'm also into intermittent feasting, which is A different episode.
[00:06:13] Okay, back to the regularly scheduled program. This, this intermittent fasting episode is sponsored by In N Out Burger. Get your double double shaking fries.
[00:06:23] Nuendo 3. Okay, back to the program. Bradley.
[00:06:28] So your body at night, it's spending a lot of energy while you're sleeping, right? The factory workers are going at it and they're digesting your food.
[00:06:38] I personally find if I eat a lot of meat at night, especially red meat, I have nightmares and not really like fun kind of night, not like funny nightmares, right? Like this is like I want to get out of here when I wake up. This is not fun.
[00:06:53] So for me, red meat at night isn't my favorite.
[00:06:57] So on the other extreme is when I skip dinner and I don't eat anything as of 4pm Then there is a group of the factory workers who are normally busy with digestion to be freed up to take care of other stuff. Right now this is where it gets interesting and this is where it could be up to you. Up to you if you're the foreman, right? You don't have to have the cigar.
[00:07:24] But this is where I think it gets interesting as to what can you guide them to do. How much influence do we have over these factory workers in our body?
[00:07:40] And this is where I'm going to go a little woo on you here because. Or a lot woo. I believe from my research and experience and firsthand experience that we have more influence over our bodies and its functions than we think.
[00:07:58] And you could chalk it up to mind over matter.
[00:08:02] And this is then down to what you believe or what you believe you're capable of.
[00:08:09] And if you're.
[00:08:11] If you don't believe much, I can highly recommend one book. Wow, I'm gonna blank on the name. Is it Dr. Linda Turner? I always forget her name. And then I always say that I always forget her name, which probably does not help my memory because I say I always forget it.
[00:08:28] Wow, I'm totally blanking on her name. When my dad was diagnosed with cancer, this book, I don't want to say saved me. I mean, but it kind of did.
[00:08:43] And I wasn't the one with cancer, so.
[00:08:48] Well, I will try to remember the book book name by the time we're done with this and I'll put it in the, in the show notes, but it's either Dr. Linda Turner or something Turner.
[00:09:01] And it's.
[00:09:02] Okay. You know what? I need to figure this out.
[00:09:05] What's it called when you recover from something? Or it's not magical, not miraculous, but miracle. Miracle.
[00:09:20] No, no, See, I don't like the word miracle either, because miracle makes it sound so difficult.
[00:09:25] You know, you might as well sign up for lottery tickets, right?
[00:09:28] I don't think it's miracle. I think it's more. It's like unexpected or something. But then what she found was that it wasn't so unexpected.
[00:09:38] And these healings of people's medical conditions. She was a medical doctor. This Linda Turner might not be Linda. Linda.
[00:09:47] And she did research on all these people who healed a lot of it from cancer. Because I was looking for my dad, right? Like, how can I help my dad?
[00:09:56] And that really changed my mind about the power of our mind over our body.
[00:10:03] So with that slight detour from apparently our second sponsor from the book I can't remember the name of.
[00:10:12] All right, I'll get there.
[00:10:13] Let's get back to it. So your body, you got the fact. Just imagine a good portion of the factory workers there.
[00:10:22] They've got nothing to do. And so remember, they're like hard workers. They're dedicated workers. They're like Japanese auto union labor, right? They are going to do the job. They are.
[00:10:36] What's the word? Loyalty.
[00:10:39] They truly want to help your body, mind and spirit. Okay, so what do you do? What do you tell them? So you're the factory worker. And this is where my guided meditation is going to come in. I want to help guide you to guide your factory foreman, to guide your factory workers to send them off on the night shift.
[00:11:04] And the night shift, you can work on whatever you like.
[00:11:07] So let's say you've got an achy knee that you can send the factory workers. Remember, this is like before you're going to sleep, right? You send your factory workers, you say, hey, night shift. Hey, guys, I have skipped dinner tonight. So even though you might think it's like the night off, it's a party. Margaritas.
[00:11:29] Now, we got a few things to do first. You know, my. My left knee's been bugging me, and I'd like to send a team down there to my knee and work on repairing the. The muscle tissue. And maybe let's get some tendons strengthened tonight.
[00:11:46] And you, you, you, blue team, you. You go do that, right?
[00:11:51] And then. So that could be physical stuff. Have I mentioned lately I'm not a doctor? I don't think so. So also that's physical.
[00:12:00] Or your throat is itchy. You want to avoid a cold. Well, let's get them. Let's get them working on that. Your eyes are bugging you. You want to improve your eyesight. I. By the. All right, pro tip behind the scenes takeaway.
[00:12:19] I work on my eyes, I practice my eyes. And I still to this day, I don't really need reading glasses. Sometimes I do reading glasses at night.
[00:12:29] And I've read about this, that you can help your eyes or you can hurt your eyes, right? But you can also train your eyes and you can improve your eyesight, which I have done.
[00:12:41] So what else can you have them do? What if you're working on a. You got a work project that you're concerned about or thinking about. Well, have that team. Remember these guys, these factory workers are not just dummies, right? They're not. It's not. They're only. They're not only like physical with hammer and wrenches, right? They're also part of your mind. And so they could go work on a work project.
[00:13:06] They could work through some ideas. You might have or sort of have discussions throughout the night while you're sleeping.
[00:13:19] And by morning you might wake up and have a more clear idea of what to do on that project, right?
[00:13:27] Or spiritual stuff. So we got mind, heart, gut.
[00:13:33] If we say the gut is down there working on your sore knee and then we've got the heart and maybe they are doing that work project because it's a passion project for you.
[00:13:45] And then the mind. So you can see this mind as analytical or you could go off in the woo direction and go above your mind and sort of into your spirit. Higher, above. So maybe you have.
[00:13:57] You shoot for a mystical experience.
[00:14:00] You tell the factory workers, hey, guys, I want to have a mystical experience tonight. You don't need to describe it. You don't need to see. There's, you know, I'm going to visit my great grandmother who's gonna come back from her grave.
[00:14:15] You don't have to get specifics, although you can.
[00:14:19] I often am just sort of.
[00:14:22] I extend the invitation.
[00:14:25] I invite my dad to come visit, I invite my mom to come visit both who have passed away, right?
[00:14:30] And there's no guarantees, but when you open up that invitation, you extend that invitation.
[00:14:40] In my humble opinion and my very woo experience in my life in recent years, they want to visit you. The past lives, the deceased family members and friends.
[00:14:55] In my experience of what I've experienced of my mom and dad and others who have passed away is that they're there for you.
[00:15:03] They want to the visit you. They want to have a connection with you.
[00:15:08] You just have to sort of rise up to the occasion and meet them.
[00:15:14] So it's up to you. And this is where I think if you've got that extra energy, that extra workforce who's available at night because you skipped dinner, then that might open up a portal, dare I say a window, a door for you to go through to have a more spiritual experience.
[00:15:38] And this might be in the form of a dream or it might be in the form of, what do they call it, Lucid dreaming.
[00:15:46] Lucid dreaming, I've done a lot of research on this. Lucid dreaming is when you have some little bit of. It sounds weird, but you have a little bit of control of your dream. It's a little bit, little bit like you're a tiny bit conscious in your dream, like you realize you're dreaming and you can a little bit be the director of the movie, right? It's so fun, but it takes some prep, right? And this could be a perfect example when you, you do a fasting, when you skip dinner and then you've got that extra workforce freed up to go play with stuff like this. It's just in my experience, right. Just in my opinion.
[00:16:31] So there you have it.
[00:16:34] Another pro tip here I'd like to just touch on is that it's, I don't know, 6:30 something. I don't know, it's early, the sun's coming up. Pepper is sound asleep.
[00:16:47] I'm earlier than Pepper this morning and this comes about. I am wide awake, right? I've been up since 5 o'. Clock. I did a 45 minute past life regression meditation if you must know. And I know that might freak out some people, but I'm deep in the woo.
[00:17:05] So these meditations for me, this is my time of clarity, courage and confidence.
[00:17:11] And what I can highly recommend, and it also comes from the book the 17 Hours, right, where I talk about fasting, meditating, creating and so skipping dinner, waking up and doing a guided meditation or before you go to sleep, do the guided meditation like the night shift.
[00:17:32] And then in the morning when you're up and before you read the newspaper and check your bone or even before you have coffee or whatnot. I mean, okay, maybe you can have a coffee, but, but I think it's different. You want still a little bit of that unconscious state where you're just waking up because that's when really that door opens and you have that entrance or accessibility to more clarity in your own thoughts.
[00:18:03] And that's when I like to hit record. And in recent years I've been doing exactly what I'm doing now. I don't do video. I mean literally, it's too Much information. But I'm in my pajamas and it was dark outside when I started.
[00:18:17] And I hit record on my voice app, on my phone, right? No fancy stuff. I'm not turning on the computer. My phone is like off, right? It's just record. It's just me. And I'm looking out the window and I'm looking at the sunrise and the birds up there in the tree, and the birds are just chirping like crazy.
[00:18:37] So this, in my humble opinion, is the final element of 17 hours.
[00:18:44] Fast, meditate, create.
[00:18:47] And this is where you're creating something and I don't, I don't. You don't need to publish this, right?
[00:18:52] I hit record. This is mostly for me. This is mostly for me to remember. Bradley, this is why you skip dinner on Thursday nights. Because you feel great. You have amazing ideas. You have confidence, courage, clarity, confidence, all in one and all together and all separately on a Friday morning. Why? Because you started out skipping dinner on Thursday night. It's as simple as that.
[00:19:17] And it's interesting when talk about solutions, often, like the gurus who I follow, they talk about this how sometimes if the answer seems too simple, that often we are hesitant to accept it as, you know, the big solution. Because, no, it's too simple. The answer can't be that simple.
[00:19:42] And I'm here to tell you that it's simple but not easy. Because there's simple and easy.
[00:19:51] There's simple but not easy, there's not simple but easy, and then there's simple and easy.
[00:20:00] Now, I dare I say my modest self, this for me now is simple and easy because I've been doing it for years.
[00:20:10] You might not think what I'm talking about right now is simple or easy, and that's okay.
[00:20:16] But I want to make it at least simple so that you can get started with it to the point where it's at least easier than it was that previous time, right?
[00:20:29] So I didn't mean to turn this into a pitch fest for 17 hours, but I might as well. So I. You can find it. I think it's free. I think I make it for free. I can't remember. You can go find it on.
[00:20:44] On in all the bookstores and it might be free. It might cost a little money. I don't know. I pretty sure I have an even entire podcast of it. And I probably at some point will put up the audiobook in its ent on my YouTube channel.
[00:21:00] So, okay, this turned into a pitch fest for 17 hours, but that's what I'm doing. Right. Because I didn't eat since 4pm I went to bed early. I, I woke up early and did a meditation and now I'm creating. That's it. Fast, meditate, create, skip dinner, meditate, create. Right, that's it. Okay. And the night shift, check out, there's a playlist. I think I started it and I'm going to keep adding to it. And also check out Insight Timer. Insight Timer. I'm a creator there. I've got some guided meditations and I want to add to this Night shift series because I want to do a night shift physical, a night shift spiritual, a night shift mind or whatever. A night shift work, a night shift creativity and sort of kickstarter your the night shift, what you're working on, right? And guide you to guide your foreman, to guide your workforce to do the night shift. Right, to work the night shift. Because they're there. And remember, they're like Japanese union workers. They're ready to work for you. They're going to work. They want to work. Their goal is to work for you. That's it. They're dedicated. They love you more than anything. It's pretty cool. So let's put them to work at night. All you gotta do is sleep.
[00:22:20] Ideally without a double cheeseburger. Have I mentioned a double cheeseburger like four times? Hello.
[00:22:25] Maybe I need a double cheeseburger.
[00:22:27] I should really do another episode called Intermittent Feasting because Intermittent feast. I love eating. Here I am talking about fasting. I love eating.
[00:22:38] Oh, oh, speaking of eating and not eating double cheeseburgers, I lost a kilo in one week. Yippee. I really gave it my best this week. I lost one kilo for those Americans and for here it's a 2.2 pounds and I'm super proud, so. But a lot of it had to do with skipping dinner last night, right? Because, yeah, I felt good all week. I worked out this week, went to the gym, I think three times, which is three times more than I used to go, gotta say.
[00:23:08] And I've been doing well on dinners. We're doing. My wife and I are doing Weight Watchers. It's really helping. I'm really loving it and I'm learning, you know, where the points come from. And that double cheeseburger, which I am pretty sure I've mentioned at least eight times now, maybe I need a double cheeseburger tonight to go celebrate my fasting. Although it's a little counter.
[00:23:28] Counterintuitive. Right. Celebrate your intermittent fasting success with the double cheeseburger. But apparently I keep talking about it.
[00:23:37] All right, you know what I'm fighting back from? I'm fighting back from two and a half months in the U.S. that's what I'm fighting back from with my son having way too much barbecue and Mexican and double cheeseburgers in N Out Burger and P. Terry's in Austin.
[00:23:53] Okay, I'm signing off because I'm getting goofy. I'm starting to make bad jokes. So I will leave you with that. Hey, let me know what resonated the most with you from this audio this morning. I'd love to hear it. Okay, bye for now and until next time, hopefully on a Friday.
[00:24:11] And this is Fast Friday. I'm Bradley Charbonneau is the repossible podcast and YouTube channel. I'm here every single week. In fact, I'm really here every single day. I'm usually posting a short and it's part of my, my passion and my, my structure as well. Daily, weekly, monthly. That's. That's it. That's my big secret.
[00:24:30] In fact, my big secret is that I don't really have big secrets. I pretty much give it all away because, remember, I want to keep it simple. It's not always going to be easy. Hard part is in the execution, is doing it. And that's what I'm doing right now. So I'm hopefully inspiring for you to get it done right now. Let's make it happen Fast Friday if you want to join me. I could always use the accountability. Maybe there's like a Thursday Thunder Fast Friday party on Thursday nights where we all, like, drink sparkling water together.
[00:25:06] All right, signing off. Have a great day. Have a great weekend. Bye for now.
