[00:00:01] Little Thursday Thunder here. Thursday evening, I'm in Martina Franca in southern Italy. I thought I'd start you off with that giant horse in front of me, otherwise known as a dog.
[00:00:13] I'm going to turn around here and I'm going to take you to the square and I'm going to show you what's going on in the world here in southern Italy in September on this fine Thursday. Now remember, if I didn't do this every single Thursday, this, then you wouldn't be able to share this. Now, how is that for. How's that for entertainment and education? I swear I've got some education coming tonight. Got some stuff to learn and some stuff to ponder, because we are pondering. News flash. Newsflash, a move next year.
[00:00:45] Now here's my question for the evening. First of all, how do you like those, those lights? Aren't they cool? Can you see those? The purple and yellow and green in the bike? It's all over southern Italy. It's really quite cool.
[00:00:59] So here's our thing.
[00:01:01] I won't go into too much detail, but let me just break it down. I can give you the reasons later, but basically we're looking to move next year from the Netherlands to another country.
[00:01:12] And one of the top contenders is Italy, and specifically southern Italy. I can get in detail more later, but specifically southern Italy. And this is a town called Martina Franca. I hadn't heard of it before, day before yesterday, and now I'm in it, and I'm going to show you this square up here. So here's my question.
[00:01:33] Yes, it's gorgeous. And you'll see, it's enchanting and lovely and colorful and lively and safe and frolicking and fun and festive. Have I mentioned festive?
[00:01:45] And yet, what's it like in March?
[00:01:48] What's it like when the tourists are gone?
[00:01:51] What is real life like here when you've got to pay the electricity bill and you've heard this, you can't pay it online, or it doesn't work, or you don't have an Italian bank account, or you've got to go to the administration to change your visa, or all kinds of stuff. Now remember, a lot of the stuff I hear about is about American visas and how, or I should say non Europeans who need a visa to live in Europe. It's a big, big deal, a huge barrier for non Europeans. Remember? Well, remember. I say remember as if you know, But I have a European passport, I have a Dutch passport I'm very proud of, and that is my Plan. I can live anywhere I want in Europe. Doesn't mean I can work there. I mean, I can work there legally, but doesn't mean I get a job.
[00:02:37] I'm going to continue this conversation the other side of the square because there is some blasting amusique out here going on. So let's come back to the question of what's it like to really live in a place? And if I walk up here and get this queen, cozy, charming, enchanted Southern Italian town, and let's see what things are like in March, but for now, we're in September, and I'm going to let you enjoy the square. Here we go.
[00:03:35] Check out this street here. Down to the left, the fake red flowers. And then if you can see it, there's a red building up to the left.
[00:03:56] Sad.
[00:04:29] The red wine, the pasta, the pizza, the festive. What is it, Thursday? Of course it's Thursday, because this is Thursday Thunder.
[00:04:45] I like to be varied in my Thursdays. And here, this is.
[00:04:52] If you follow my Thursdays, they are usually with my dog Pepper in the woods and not quite as lively as this, which is why I'm happy to share this today. So here we go. Let's wrap this thing up. I'm going to make it a short one this week, and the question is, you know, I'm going to take this from my dad. I'm going to walk down here a little bit to get a little peace. Quiet.
[00:05:13] My dad.
[00:05:15] Okay, so much for the peace and quiet.
[00:05:18] What's going on?
[00:05:21] Okay, what's that?
[00:05:26] Ow.
[00:05:29] You know what? If you're listening and you're like, bradley, be quiet. I want to hear the music. I hear you.
[00:05:35] God.
[00:05:55] Okay, there's an actual church service going on.
[00:06:00] I'm going to leave you with some beautiful Italian little alleyways here.
[00:06:06] You know what's really fun?
[00:06:08] And I think maybe, I don't know, because I grew up in the big city group in la.
[00:06:12] Like, I. My. My initial thought, I've kind of gotten over it. My initial thought is in a alleyway at night is fear. And it's. It's unfortunate. I don't know if I can ever shake it, but that's what I grew up with. So that's what I'm kind of.
[00:06:29] I can't really shake it. So. All right, here you go. My Thursday Thunder Friends and Repossible podcast.
[00:06:39] What do you think?
[00:06:41] I mentioned my dad before the opera started singing there. My dad would often say we'd be visiting a town for holiday vacation. And he would say, let's let's buy a house here.
[00:06:55] And he probably said it a hundred times in my life when we went on holidays when I was a kid. And you know how many houses he bought? 0.
[00:07:04] But it was fun. It was fun to think about it, to dream about it. And yet, interestingly, because they didn't move in my entire youth, I lived in the same house, my entire upbringing, and they lived there. And in fact, my dad passed away while living in that house. My mom finally moved, but I lived there till I was whatever, 18. And I have probably moved. In fact, I should count, I don't know, 20 times I've lived in four, five, six different countries, on two different continents and speak three or four languages and all that good stuff, right? And so right now, the year, next year, we're debating a move to Italy. Well, we're going to move somewhere, let me put it that way, out of the Netherlands.
[00:07:49] I can explain why, but it's really for adventure. It's for adventure, for a change of pace, for something different.
[00:07:55] And because the kids are out of the house this fall and we want a change of pace. So. All right, all right. Church is getting started up again. So my thought is, have you ever thought of living somewhere else, especially where you were on holiday and how close did you come to do it? Or did you do it? Maybe you actually did it? Have you done that move? Have you pulled that trigger? And if you have, I would love to have a chat with you on my YouTube channel and podcast.
[00:08:26] And the theme of the upcoming project is now what?
[00:08:30] And it's a big decision making time. It's like so from us, it's like the kids are moving out of the house.
[00:08:37] Now what? Now what do we do right now? What do we choose for us?
[00:08:42] And that's where we are right now. So my now what has turned into where are we moving next and are we really going to do it? And that's a big thing of this.
[00:08:54] So what's your now what? And have you already done a big now what? And then what did you do? How did you make the decision? How did you come to terms? How did you decide? How did you choose what decision to make and how did you then do it? So that's what I want to hear. That's what I want to talk about on the podcast and YouTube channel for the coming few months, for the end of 2020.
[00:09:16] If you'd like to share the story with me, let me know. Put a comment down here or just get in touch with me and we'll talk soon. For now. I will leave you with a little bit more music from Italy.
[00:09:26] See you next week.
[00:09:29] I stopped. Sure. Of course it.
