[00:00:01] The best things in life are free. [00:00:04] The second best things are incredibly expensive. [00:00:09] Hey, Bradley Charbonneau coming to you from Bali for Thursday Thunder and the Repossible podcast. But not the Bali you're probably imagining. No infinity pools and curated sunsets. No drone shots of waterfalls. This week I walked to my friend's dog. I fixed their washing machine. I dropped a 9 year old off at school. [00:00:33] And in the middle of that deeply unglamorous schedule, I found something I didn't expect. [00:00:41] Wealth. [00:00:43] Rich richness. [00:00:45] It got me thinking about that quote. The best things in life are free. The second best things are incredibly expensive. [00:00:55] We're often led to believe we need to chase the shiny, the curated, the impressive. But what if the real stuff, the lasting stuff, comes from something far less flashy? [00:01:11] This episode is about people and experience. [00:01:15] It's about presence and connection. And it's about realizing that maybe the moments we we don't post are the ones we end up treasuring most. [00:01:27] Let's dive in. [00:01:29] Part 1 the Unexpected paradise so yeah, I'm in Bali. But instead of ziplining or sipping something with a flower in it, I'm visiting a longtime friend. [00:01:45] We're sharing meals, swapping stories, walking his dog through traffic and rice fields. [00:01:51] We fixed a broken washing machine. We ran a mundane school errand. We talked late into the evening about life, purpose, kids, mistakes and dreams. [00:02:03] And you know what? [00:02:04] It was deeply rich. [00:02:09] Little joke there, because my friend's name is rich. [00:02:12] These are the kinds of experiences money can't really buy. [00:02:18] I mean, yes, I need a plane ticket to get here, but the kind of connections you can't always plan for. [00:02:27] Sometimes, even when you're with someone you've just met, that one conversation goes deeper than a decade long friendship. [00:02:36] It's not about time. It's about presence. [00:02:41] It's not about knowing someone's history. It's about showing up for their now. [00:02:50] Part 2 the trap of second best things here's where it gets tricky. We've been sold this fantasy life that the more you spend time, the better it must be. [00:03:06] That if it's not photogenic, it's not worth doing. [00:03:11] That connection only counts if it's captioned. [00:03:17] But here's the truth. [00:03:20] Most of the second best things in life, they're beautiful on the outside and surprisingly hollow on the inside. [00:03:30] The beachfront villa, the influencer brunch, the itinerary built more for posting than for feeling. [00:03:40] They're not bad. [00:03:42] They're just not enough. [00:03:45] Because they're missing something. [00:03:48] People. [00:03:49] Connection. [00:03:50] Experience. [00:03:52] We can spend thousands for the perfect trip. [00:03:56] But sometimes the richest experience is a walk down a dusty road with a friend. [00:04:02] Or a shared laugh with someone you just met who sees something in you you didn't know was there. [00:04:14] Part 3 the heart of it all so let's come back now to that quote. [00:04:21] The best things in life are free. [00:04:24] The second best things are incredibly expensive. [00:04:30] It's not about guilt. [00:04:32] It's about awareness. [00:04:35] It's okay to want the beautiful trip. It's okay to enjoy the sunsets and the lattes and the spa days. [00:04:42] Just don't forget where the real treasure is. [00:04:47] Because the second best things might impress you, but the best things, they hold you. They're subtle. They're sacred. [00:04:58] And they're soaked in connection. [00:05:02] The second best things in life, they fade fast. [00:05:06] But the best things, they stay. [00:05:09] They root. They echo. [00:05:12] A quiet conversation, a look of recognition, a shared slice of someone el else's real life. [00:05:21] These aren't flashy moments. They're the kind you remember on a random Tuesday and feel grateful all over again. [00:05:33] So here's what I'm walking away with. [00:05:36] You don't need to escape your life to fall in love with it again. [00:05:41] You don't need to fly across the world to be rich. [00:05:47] You don't need more money or more time to start feeling connected. [00:05:55] You just need people and experiences. [00:06:01] You need to pay attention, not pay. [00:06:06] More money. [00:06:08] So look around. [00:06:11] Slow down. [00:06:12] Say yes to the tiny, ordinary moments that no one else will ever see. [00:06:18] But that will matter more than any photo ever could. [00:06:23] Because the best things in life, they're free. [00:06:27] And if we're lucky, we'll remember to notice them. [00:06:34] Thanks for listening and watching. I'm Bradley Schrobineau and this is the Repossible podcast and the Thursday Thunder broadcast weekly video address. [00:06:43] See you next week.
